Host terms

These are the terms every host accepts before their first event goes live. Version 2026-10-02.

Draft, not yet in force

These terms are between you (the host) and Specvista Technology, trading as Mirth ("Mirth", "we"). They apply whenever you create, publish or run an event on Mirth. They sit alongside the Member Terms and the Code of Conduct.

1. What Mirth is, and what you are

1.1 Mirth is an online platform. It helps people find events, book places and pay, check in and out, and form crews. Mirth does not organise, run, lead or supervise events.

1.2 When you publish an event, you are its organiser. You decide what happens, where and when, and you are responsible for running it.

1.3 Nothing in these terms makes you an employee, worker, agent or partner of Mirth. You host as an independent person, or for your own organisation.

2. Who can host

2.1 To host you must:

  • be 18 or over
  • have a verified email, phone number and identity document
  • accept these terms

2.2 For harder activities you must declare a qualification that matches the difficulty. For example, a Mountain Training Lowland Leader award for moderate walks, a Hill and Moorland Leader award for challenging walks, or an activity-specific leader award for climbing. You confirm that every qualification you declare is genuine and current. We may ask for evidence at any time.

2.3 We may refuse, pause or end hosting at our discretion, including for low ratings, late cancellations, reports or breaches of these terms.

3. Your responsibilities as organiser

You agree to:

  • describe the event honestly: activity, difficulty, distance, pace, meeting point, kit, accessibility and any costs
  • keep within the group cap the app allows (up to 8 attendees plus you for activities, and 12 to 30 for socials)
  • plan the event, check the route or venue and the weather, and make the go or no-go call at least 24 hours before
  • brief attendees at the start, keep the group together and take reasonable care of everyone's safety
  • use the check-in tools, and act on an alert when someone has not checked out
  • call off or change the event if conditions make it unsafe
  • follow the law, any landowner or venue rules, and the Code of Conduct
  • never ask attendees for payment outside Mirth for an event booked through Mirth

4. Insurance and risk

4.1 Mirth does not insure your events. Mirth's own insurance covers only the platform (for example professional indemnity and cyber). It does not cover your event, you or your attendees.

4.2 You are responsible for deciding whether you need insurance, such as public liability cover, and for arranging it. Partner groups use their own cover. We may later offer optional host cover through an insurance partner when you create an event.

4.3 Attendees accept the ordinary risks of the activity under the Member Terms. That does not reduce your duty of care as organiser, or any liability the law does not let you exclude.

5. Payments, fees and payouts

5.1 Events are free by default. To charge, you must set up a payout account. It is held by our payment provider (Flutterwave) as a subaccount in your name. You give your bank details to Flutterwave through Mirth. Mirth keeps only the subaccount reference, never your bank details.

5.2 Mirth takes a platform fee from each paid booking. The default is 10%. The rate in force when you publish an event applies to that event. Flutterwave splits each payment, so your share is paid to your subaccount on Flutterwave's settlement schedule. Payment processing fees may also apply.

5.3 The refund rules in the Member Terms apply to your events:

  • full refund 72 hours or more before the start
  • credit between 24 and 72 hours
  • nothing under 24 hours
  • a full refund whenever you or Mirth cancel

Refunds come out of the booking, so your share is reversed as well.

5.4 You are responsible for any tax due on what you receive.

6. Ratings, quality and removal

6.1 After each event, attendees can say whether they would go again with you. Mirth also tracks late cancellations and reports.

6.2 We may flag you for review, pause new events or remove you as a host if any of these happen:

  • fewer than 60% of attendees would go again with you (once there are at least 5 ratings)
  • you cancel late twice in 90 days
  • a report against you is upheld

If we remove you, we cancel your upcoming events and refund attendees in full.

6.3 You can appeal any decision through the app (Reports, then Appeal). A different person reviews the appeal where we can arrange that.

7. Safety, safeguarding and content

7.1 Mirth is for adults only. Do not bring anyone under 18 to an event booked through Mirth.

7.2 You must not post anything illegal or harmful, harass or discriminate against anyone, or use attendees' contact details for anything other than running the event.

7.3 If you see a safety or safeguarding concern, report it in the app straight away. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 999 first.

8. Personal data

8.1 You can see attendee details only for your own events, and only as needed to run them. For example, a phone number is shown from 24 hours before the event, or while a safety alert is open. You must keep these details confidential and delete any copies you made once the event is over.

8.2 We process personal data as described in the Privacy Policy, under UK GDPR and, where it applies, Nigeria's NDPA and EU GDPR.

9. Liability

9.1 Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit.

9.2 Subject to 9.1, Mirth is not liable for how an event is run, or for loss caused by you or by attendees. Our total liability to you under these terms is limited to the platform fees we received for your events in the 12 months before the claim.

9.3 You agree to cover Mirth's reasonable losses arising from your breach of these terms or the law in running your events.

10. Changes and ending

10.1 We may change these terms. We will tell you before a change takes effect. You must accept the new version before you can publish more events.

10.2 You can stop hosting at any time. Cancelling events that already have bookings counts as a cancellation under section 6.

10.3 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction, unless your local law gives you rights we cannot exclude.
